Steam. Valve Corporation’s online distribution service is the main reason I game on my PC. Granted I was gaming on my PC randomly long before I was ever on Steam, it was that excellent service that made me a strong proponent and user of the service and PC gaming in general. Considering I wanted my games to look very good and play well I also got into custom PC building. This further increased my love of PC gaming.
Can console games match the graphics fidelity of PC games? Sure, but to a point. With the right graphics card – or cards, plural – on your PC, you can have graphics that can easily overtake the best-looking console games out there. But it is not all about looks; the history of PC games includes some topnotch titles with exceptional gameplay, including: World of Warcraft, System Shock I & System Shock II, the Half-Life, StarCraft II and more. In fact, it was SCII that made me want to build a gaming PC. The mouse and keyboard configuration makes for awesome control in games like first-person shooters; in fact, many will argue that the mouse is the most accurate peripheral when compared to an analog controller. The keyboard allows for a lot of room to customize your control scheme which is useful in RPGs like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
With the ease of acquiring games on your PC using services like Steam, with the history of solid games and graphics that can easily surpass the current-gen systems, PC gaming is a market that is still strong and I, for one, will continue to support.
