Chrono TriggerAs a gamer and RPG fan I cannot think of any role-playing game – or any other game for that matter – that surpasses the love and affection I have for Chrono Trigger.  Originally released on the Super Nintendo back in 1995, I pretty much dedicated every waking hour not in school or doing homework playing this game.  Having saved a bunch of my allowance, I remember buying the game, reading the manual cover to cover while my eldest sister drove me back home, and popping it into my SNES and ignoring everything else going on.

You play as the silent protagonist Crono who, through a serious of events, is thrust into a series of events that leads him and his band of awesome compatriots on a quest to save the world from a future catastrophe.  There were so many plot twists, excellent character development, top-tier music, graphics, and replayability: exactly what you want in an RPG.

I loved this game so much I spent an entire year fully completing the game.  By “fully completing” I mean I collected 99 of EVERY item, got all 13 endings, and maxed out every single stat for every character available.  And even after I did all that I kept playing the game just for the fun of it.  Then I made the really bad move of lending out my original SNES cartridge to my cousins with all my invaluable saves.  They subsequently lost it…

That tragedy aside Chrono Trigger stands out as the pinnacle of gaming in my mind.  Even with the current gen of eye-popping visuals and gameplay, it has stood the test of time and is easily the greatest RPG to have ever been made.
